NO WOMAN SHOULD SUFFER FROM THIS DISEASE
I was watching news last week in my one of the popular station. Then a story which made me shed a tear was aired. It was about a woman who was suffering from obstetric fistula. She was 90 years old. Her story was really painful. She had suffered from the disease for the past 27 years and the sad part is that she is childless because of her condition and she had no one to comfort her. What really made me shed a tear was when she said that she wished she was death. She started wondering why God is keeping her alive; she was just tired of the pain, shame and suffering.

After watching the story I did a research of the disease she was suffering from. From Wikipedia obstetric fistula is a medical condition in which a fistula (hole) develops between both the rectum and vagina or between the bladder and vagina after severe or failed child birth.
It always occurs due to medical negligence. Most women affected are from poverty stricken areas which they lack adequate medical resources forcing women to run to midwives who sometimes are not full qualified.

The symptoms include foul smell, flatulence and vaginal infections. This condition always victimises women and most of them lose their self-esteem and end up shying away from social activities hence leading a lonely life .The good news to all women is that this condition is correctable. Go to your nearest health centre to learn more about the condition.

I was happy to learn that the 90 year old woman was now undergoing medical treatment and hopefully she will live a normal life just like everyone else very soon. Wish someone had told her that her condition was correctable 27 years ago. Will always remember her in my prayer
